YEAR 5 REPORTS

Places to Practise

This report is the first publication from the Every One Every Day project for three years. Since the publication of Tools to Act in early 2020, the world has changed dramatically, and with it, the lives of the residents of Barking and Dagenham. As the borough has changed, so have the approaches, methods, and day-to-day work of the Every One Every Day project.

Places to Practise brings the account of this work up to date. It summarises how the project adapted to the unique challenges of Covid 19, and emerged from it. It contains for the first time a full description of the Collaborative Business Programme, however this sections has been curated into a stand-alone document called Designed to Collaborate, downloadable below.

Most importantly, Places to Practise shares the evidence gathered about the impact of these participation experiences for the sense of trust, connection and individual and collective agency which residents have developed through their involvement in the project.

The team want to thank the people of Barking and Dagenham, whose stories are told in this report, who are endlessly creative, resourceful, resilient, and a constant inspiration. We are delighted to share this report with you.

Designed to Collaborate

Within Plases to Practise is the first comprehensive account of the collaborative business programmes developed as part of the Every One Every Day project in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham over five years, involving over 400 residents. Between 2018 and 2022, a total of 42 programmes took place. This report includes descriptions of the different models, their design, implementation, and evaluation.

Designed to Collaborate highlights the transformative impact that these programmes had on individuals and the community.

It describes how these programmes built friendships, networks, collective agency, as well as social and economic capital.

The insights and lessons shared in this report are recommended for those working on city leadership, urban policy and strategy, community and neighbourhood development, skills and employment development, and the built environment.

Please note, the content of Designed to Collaborate is included within the Places to Practise report.
