The Wild Bee Homes project gives residents the opportunity to learn wood-working techniques whilst constructing hives using salvaged wood and digital making skills on the Laser Cutter and CNC Machines.

There are around 270 species of bees in Britain and just under 250 of those are Wild Bees, also known as Solitary Bees. They don’t get a lot of attention because they don’t produce honey or wax but they are much more effective pollinators than honeybees. They don’t live in hives and instead build little homes using leaves, wood or holes in trees and buildings to lay their eggs. So, it’s important to create green spaces with lots of colourful wildflowers for them to collect nectar and pollen.

Understanding Wild Bees and the environment they prefer to live in can help us save them and other wildlife like them.
