Leaf bank is a community compost heap for organic matter, designed as a place for local residents to dispose of garden leaves. It is a simple structure using large wooden stakes and chicken wire that is set up in a public space and accessible for all.

The first Leaf Bank was established by local residents who were involved in greening projects. It has since been used for The Allotment Project and is part of an essential building block to facilitate participation for outdoor gardening based projects.

More residents were inspired by the Leaf Bank project, sharing building skills in other community green spaces. Today, many Leaf Banks have been assembled across Barking and Dagenham.
